Meet Mary Keever
I started Intention Path Counseling and Intention Path Services after 8 years at Cornerstone Health Care/Wake Forest Baptist Health. I was tired of empty promises from administrators and having no clear path to advance my career. I wanted also to use my skills and knowledge gained from this period in my career.
One of the most important things that happened was that in March 2020, I realized that I had to change my approach to help people recover from trauma. Up until that point, I knew I had been affected by the trauma I had experienced in my own life and thus, was motivated to help others do the same. But, I was experiencing a new kind of trauma along with the rest of the world at that time. I had heard of The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, MD, but I had not read more than 50 pages of it. With all my in-person sessions canceled indefinitely, I read the whole book. I have learned from my own trauma to use crisis as an opportunity when I can and when it helps to do so. Then, I listened to Dr. van der Kolk talk for 12 hours about The Body Keeps the Score, and I found myself unable to return to the previous way I helped people heal trauma. I, instead, pivoted and have since continued to study and integrate science-based, effective information and methods to help people heal on a deeper level, enabling them to find meaning in their lives and enjoy the present.
I am a life-long learner and dedicated to enhancing my skills and knowledge on a regular basis. You will usually find me surrounded by new books, talking to you about the latest piece of information that I think will be most helpful. I hope to always be this way.
Right now, I also can recognize that there is only one of me! I am expanding my practice and hope to gain a therapist as dedicated and effective as I am to be able to help as many people as we can.
