Our Team
Meet Mary Keever, LCSW, CHC
I started Intention Path Counseling and Intention Path Services after 8 years at Cornerstone Health Care/Wake Forest Baptist Health. In 2021, I realized I wanted to take action to find a clearer path for professional growth. I was ready to use my experience and energy to create my own business and expand my client base. I also sought to apply the skills and knowledge I had acquired during that time.
One pivotal moment in my journey came in March 2020, when the global shift due to the pandemic led me to reevaluate my approach to trauma recovery. Having faced and worked through trauma in my own life, I was already deeply committed to helping others heal. But during that time of collective uncertainty, I realized I needed a deeper understanding of how to help people heal in a way that worked better for them. I had heard of The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, MD and finally took the time to dive into it, which transformed my understanding of healing.
With in-person sessions on hold, I not only finished the book, I listened to Dr. van der Kolk talk about it for 12 hours, and I found myself unable to return to the previous way I helped people heal. I have learned from my own trauma to use crisis as an opportunity when I can and when it helps to do so. So, I pivoted and have since become dedicated to studying and integrating science-based, effective information and methods to help people heal on a deeper level, enabling them to find more meaning in their lives and enjoy the present.
As a lifelong learner, I continuously strive to enhance my skills and knowledge. My office is often filled with books, and I love bringing the latest research or strategies into sessions to better support my clients. I aim to maintain this passion for growth.
Currently, I recognize the importance of expanding my practice to meet the growing need for trauma-informed care, and there is only one of me! I’m excited to grow Intention Path Counseling by adding compassionate therapists who share my dedication and passion for helping clients thrive. Together, we can continue creating meaningful change for more people on their healing journey.

Meet Sarah Thompson, LCMHC
Hi, I’m Sarah! I’m a genuine, laid-back therapist who believes in creating an open, honest space where you can truly be yourself. Helping individuals and couples discover their authentic selves and break free from patterns that no longer serve them brings me immense joy. Being part of your personal growth and transformation is something I consider a true privilege. I work with individuals and couples to heal from trauma, feel more connected and create relationships that feel safe and real. I use a mix of EMDR, parts work (think: getting to know all the different sides of you), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to support folks through the messiness of being human.

I got my start in early intervention, working with families and young kids—and that taught me a lot about how our early experiences shape the way we show up later in life. It also sparked my ongoing fascination with the brain (hello, neuropsych nerd over here) and how our nervous systems carry the stories we’ve lived.
I value real conversations and am unafraid to dive into difficult topics. In sessions, I keep things grounded, collaborative, and real. I’m not here to “fix” you—I’m here to help you understand yourself better, make sense of what’s going on beneath the surface, and feel more in control of your story. My focus isn’t just on teaching you skills—it’s about helping you heal in a way that fosters lasting, positive transformation. Whether you’re processing old wounds or navigating new challenges, or even feeling stuck in your relationship or just trying to make life feel a little less heavy, we’ll take it one step at a time, together.
While I’m deeply committed to helping you create meaningful change in your life, I also bring compassion and authenticity to our work together. Therapy with me is warm, down-to-earth and sometimes even a little bit humorous—because while I take your healing seriously, healing doesn’t have to be all serious all the time. Therapy is not just a profession for me—it’s a passion. I’m incredibly grateful to do this meaningful and transformative work, where I have the privilege of meeting amazing individuals at pivotal points in their lives.
I also value work-life balance. When I’m not at work, I’m often with my family and our lovable rescue, Buddy. I’m passionate about exploring new places, enjoying good food, soaking in music, and sharing laughter with those who matter most.
